The Future Has Arrived: Jack Uldrich's Annual List of Game Changing Trends

Futurist Jack Uldrich

Politics aside, 2016 was a monumental year. Global futurist Jack Uldrich says, "It was hard to turn on the TV, read the newspaper, or browse the Internet without being bombarded with news about the US presidential election. But the real impact of 2016 had nothing to do with either Donald or Hillary. No, the real news was that 2016 is the year the future arrived."

What exactly does that mean? In his latest article published today, "The Year the Future Arrived," Uldrich outlines, month by month, the game-changing technological trends throughout 2016. Among the revolutionary innovations he lists are Google's use of Artificial Intelligence, Elon Musk's Model 3, the first "3 Parent-child," cultured meat and Amazon Go.

If you want to stay on the right side of the future, the first thing to do is to acknowledge that the future will be different-perhaps radically different-than the present.

Other topics Uldrich covers range from urban planning, harnessing the ocean’s tides as a dominant source of renewable energy, to how the layering of digital information on top of the physical world could conceivably transform everything from education to retail shopping.

And if the breakthroughs of 2016 weren't enough to hold us in awe, in his other article published this week, The right Side of (Game) Change, Uldrich focuses on the game-changing technology of 2017 and beyond.

"If you want to stay on the right side of the future, the first thing to do is to acknowledge that the future will be different, perhaps radically different, than the present."

With that notion in mind, Uldrich offers ten game-changing technologies and trends that he says, "would behoove you to begin familiarizing yourself with today."

So while the future may have arrived, that doesn't seem to imply that it won't keep on coming in the form of shape-shifting materials, plastic eating bacteria, and "wickedly fast worldwide internet coverage."
