Managing the Hourglass of the Future: Jack Uldrich to Speak in New Orleans

Jack Uldrich, Futurist & Founder of The School of Unlearning

Acclaimed futurist Jack Uldrich will address educators in food service at New Orleans University on February 11.

Culinary Schools are having to look, like many other educational institutions, at how to stay afloat in these changing times. Technology can be a boon, and it can be a burden. Futurist Jack Uldrich makes it his aim to help future-proof the culinary arts industry as he delivers a keynote speech in New Orleans on February 11.

With bloggers and chefs encouraging aspiring chefs to "skip culinary school," and rising tuition rates, institutions such as Le Cordon Bleu are having trouble retaining students.

Change is difficult. This is especially true in organizations that have heretofore been immune to the broader forces of disruption-such as institutions of higher learning.

"The world is changing, and education must change with it," says Futurist Jack Uldrich.

"But, change is difficult, and this is especially true in organizations that have heretofore been immune to the broader forces of disruption–such as institutions of higher learning."

To shake presidents, administrators, and faculty out of their stupor, Uldrich drafted a fictional press release. By writing it, his intention is to encourage all university and college presidents, and their boards, to read it and then discuss how they can–and must–adapt to remain competitive in the future.

The central tenets of the fictional release will be the subject of Uldrich's talk in New Orleans.

The quality of MOOC’s (Massive Open Online Courses) alone is changing so rapidly. It is Uldrich's firm belief that MOOCs will quickly "advance to the point where online schools were able to quickly create personalized learning modules for students in high-demand fields such as data analytics, artificial intelligence, and the Blockchain."

But foodservice is obviously in need of hands-on education, or is it? Uldrich will address this question, and more, as well as suggest the necessary actions these educators may want to take to stay viable in our changing world.
